HOW TO WRITE EXCELLENT ELT MATERIALS: MOTIVATION, MEMORY AND MEANING

I believe that these 3Ms, Motivation, Memory and Meaning, are the basic requirements for creating optimum conditions for learning to take place. This workshop will explore ways in which teaching materials can reflect these priorities and create these optimum learning conditions.

MOTIVATION: how to choose engaging material and adapt it where necessary so that it is accessible and useful as language input.

MEMORY: how to ensure repeated exposure to high frequency language; vocabulary storing and recycling.

MEANING: how to obtain a personal response to material; speaking tasks that encourage learners to talk about things that actually matter to them, rather than playing roles or exchanging invented information.
