CHRISTMAS PARTY & CONCERT
This year's Christmas party will be held at a Vietnamese style vegetarian restaurant in Mitte. There is plenty of seating, so please feel free to bring family and friends along.

We are also very happy to announce that guitar duo, Lutz Ebert and Robert Hoffmann, will perform in concert for us at the start of the evening. The guitarists met while studying at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eichler and formed "Teachers Passion" at a later date while teaching at the the Musikschule Dahme-Spreewald. They have inspired students of all ages through their performances in and around Berlin and Brandenburg. Their "crossover" guitar sound includes meditative compositions created while on a trip to Greece, but also livelier compositions implementing special effects, surprising percussion "instruments" and maybe even a sythesizer. Workshop double-session: 1.) Four ELT oral placement tests that take only six minutes 2.) Feedback: are we ready for it? by Anna Gebka-Suska
1.) "4ELT oral placement tests that take only 6 minutes"

Correct placement is vital to ensure the student satisfaction with any language course. Lengthy written placement tests take a lot of time and effort on the part of the language school. During the busy enrolment time students are often kept waiting to find out their level. That may cause irritation. To prevent this I devised a very short oral test that efficiently tests students’ levels up to pre-FCE and can be used when time is limited. The idea of the test is based on the assumption that while memorising new structures students always rely on their previously acquired knowledge. During my workshop I will first ask the participants to “take the test” themselves as a part of an experiment. Then we will discuss how they felt about it. Later I would like to explain the rationale behind the test and present how it can be designed and applied by the teachers themselves. Although the test has been designed for Polish students, I am convinced it can be easily adapted to any teaching context and what is more important, the test can be prepared by any teacher to suit his or her particular group of students. At the end of the session the participants will be invited to design their own tests to take home.

2.) "Feedback: are we ready for it?"

Information is supposed to be the 21st century's most precious resource. Teachers cannot provide high quality effective lessons if they don't know what their students need, want and expect, what they enjoy, what elements of English what exercises they find easy or difficult. In this presentation, I would like to talk about different ways of obtaining this valuable information. The art of getting feedback form students and the art of giving feedback to them; about the importance of feedback for both students' and teachers' motivation. And about different ways of dealing with the information we obtained through it.
