A decision was due.
In my case, I decided to return to Germany and move to Berlin after many years of living in Ireland and France. A metamorphosis took place from a clay- and dust-covered potter to a certified language business woman with clean finger nails.

What began as 'proper and pure' English language training in 1999, naturally developed into intercultural training, coaching in both English and German as well as translation & proofreading En-Ge-En. My specialities are rail/logistics matters, legal and looted art in the 20th century of German history. Real estate management is another and who knows, marketing is just around the corner from language, so there is more scope for development.

Being a non-native speaker in an overall native speaker environment bears its challenges. The good thing in it is that I never leave the learner's perspective behind.
Steffen Skowronek
English teacher at the University of Potsdam, Language Center
Julia Snyder
I'm Canadian-born with years of varied and international experience within the entertainment industry as a recording artist and music publisher. I've been based in Berlin since 1986. I ran an agency for film composers, artist & tour management and co-founded a mobile content agency for animated short films. I did the CELTA course last March and I now give workshops within Germany incl. “How to read and understand English music contracts correctly” at the Ebam Academy in Munich and Berlin. I am currently teaching the Business English module for the Media Management Bachelor's programme at the hdpk in Berlin as well as giving in-house training to the employees of BMG Rights. My current focus is on the future of digital music and convergence.
Gillian Weyandt
I am an autodidact with 30 years experience in various fields, ranging from young learners to exam preparation for IELTS, CFE, CAE, CPE, and BEC. For some years I worked in company for a bank in Düsseldorf. I have been very fortunate considering the fact that I have no formal qualifications in that I have had the opportunity to teach in so many areas. These include a German Gymnasium, a university and a stint as a Cambridge examiner in Brandenburg.

At present I am the ELTABB Treasurer and can be contacted at gillianweyandt@gmx.de
Henry Mulak
Born in Los Angeles, Henry began learning German as part of his elementary education in Southern California. He followed through on his language training by getting his Minor in the German Language from California State University at Humboldt. During his university training, he worked in Bern, Switzerland and participated in study programs in Cologne.

After obtaining his Bachelors Degree in Journalism, Henry became an award-winning reporter, writer and producer for radio and television stations around California. Most recently Henry has won an Emmy for his work at ABC7, the Disney owned and operated ABC Network station in San Francisco.

The RIAS Berlin Commission accepted Henry into its Fellowship Program in 1999 and he traveled once again back to Europe to study EU Politics and German reunification issues.

Henry continues to broaden his horizons and outlook, most recently obtaining his CTESOL Certificate at Transworld Schools in San Francisco.
Shaunessy Ashdown
I started teaching English when I moved to Berlin in 2000. Most of my work now is in developing materials for teachers and learners of English. This involves writing books and producing CDs and (soon) videos for the Cornelsen Verlag. I also do classroom observation for a very good language instruction service called All On Board. I also do voice over work, G-E translation, and book editing.

Outside of work, my current interests include writing my fiction story, learning French, trying out the teachings of Abraham-Hicks, yoga, and "Fitness", as we are fond of saying here in Germany. :-) I am also active in the MeRSI group of Amnesty International.

I want to say that joining ELTABB was one of the best things I ever did for my career. Whenever I take the time to attend an event, I meet really lovely people who are so intelligent and so willing to share their knowledge. The workshops have been a major part of my professional training--they are often outstanding in quality. The online Yahoo Group forum has been wonderful, and now we are very lucky to have this top-quality website (Thanks, Ed!).

William Chaney
I taught my first English class in 1989 and completed an M.A. in TESOL in 1990. A seven-year interlude as a human resources officer provided me with insights into the inner workings of companies that completely changed my approach to needs-based communication and language coaching. I'm a certified cross-cultural trainer, interaction management trainer and NLP practitioner, and started English in Form in 2003. You can find out more about us and our clients at www.english-in-form.com.
Beant Kaur Hergo
I am Beant Kaur Hergo, an Australian-born teacher of Business and General English and an IELTS trainer. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English and History from the University of Western Australia and a CTEFLA (Certificate for Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults). I have also been through professional dance training and am a Yoga Teacher. I have been living in Berlin for 8 years now and have a flourishing German-English bilingual family! What I enjoy about teaching English is the interaction with people from all walks of life and the privilege of accompanying them on their journey and helping them a way towards their personal goals. I aim to make my lessons juicy and alive, so that learning can happen as naturally as possible.
Louise McCloy
After spending a semester in Berlin as part of my degree in Modern Languages, I fell in love with the city and decided to come back here in 2003 to teach English. In this time I have taught a variety of groups and have thoroughly enjoyed meeting and teaching such a wider range of interesting people.
I have a CELTA and CertTEB and am just nearing the end of my Masters in Applied Linguistics at St. Mary's University College.
I've also spent a couple of years on the board and appreciate all the hard work and enthusiasm that makes ELTABB work so well.

Martin Bradbeer
I am responsible for the Kompetenzzentrum für Lehrkraft Englisch at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau.
I have been involved in English language teaching since 1989, having worked for many years at the British Council in Berlin. My previous job was at the Cornelsen Verlag as the Oxford University Press ELT Coordinator for Germany and Austria where I was able to get valuable insights into the publishing aspects of EFL materials.
I took an MBA course in International Management at the Fachhochschule für Wirtschaft, Berlin where my main subjects were Marketing, Intercultural Communications and Human Resource Management and wrote my dissertation on ‘Anglo-German intercultural relationships at a business level’.
I have the RSA Dip. TEFL from International House in London and went back there to take an intercultural training course in 2007.
I am also involved in EFL materials development, being the author of the Business Englisch Kurs published by Langenscheidt in 2005 and very much enjoy holding workshops and talks to help support the work of others involved in English language teaching.
I joined ELTABB in about 1995 and greatly value the benefits it brings to all its members.
David Meier
I moved to Germany specifically in 2006 from NYC to further pursue a career in opera and having endured too many years of the Bush Administration. I fell in love with Berlin after a visit in 2002, and knew then I would be returning. My first visit to Berlin was as a 'Berlin Brat' when my stepfather was stationed here during the Cold War.

I teach English as a Second Language to a variety of age and interest groups: Listening and Reading Comprehension, as well as writing skills to university students preparing for their proficiency exams. At a private day school, I bring a native speaker flair to the upper level students, as well as supplementing their classroom material. All of these jobs I received networking through ELTABB.

For corporate as well as private clients, I bring 15 years of corporate experience in the Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Finance and Legal industries as a communications professional in Executive Education, Public Relations and Employee/Internal Communications, as well as Press Relations, Crisis and Change Management. Previous employers include Johnson & Johnson, Sanofi-Synthelabo, Biotech Industry Organization, Cravath Swaine & Moore, and several major US investment banking firms.

I am a freelance teacher for young learners and business English in Berlin / Brandenburg close to Adlershof and Schönefeld Airport. I hold an M.A. in English Language Teaching, a B.A. in Business and German and the RSA Cambridge CELTA. Originally from the United States, my work experience includes several years in import/export for an international air freight forwarder in Miami and Düsseldorf before starting my teaching career in Geneva, Switzerland and nearby France. As a long-time member of IATEFL and its special interest groups for business English and young learners, BESIG and YLTSIG, as well as ELTABB, I have been dedicated to the teaching profession since the mid 1990s. I stepped down from the ELTABB board in March after volunteering as events coordinator for the past three years, responsible for inviting internationally-renowned speakers within the ELT profession to Berlin, organizing numerous workshops and a number of social events. As a former competitive swimmer, I’m looking forward to having more time to spend boating and swimming in nearby lakes this summer.

Orignating from Canada and I'm now living in Berlin. I've been living here since April 2009 and enjoy life in this metropolitan city. It has so much to offer. I've been teaching for approximately five years now and still can't get enough of it. I am currently working as a freelance teacher. I've also lived/worked for a number of years in the UK mainly in the South of England.

I enjoy the daily challenges in the teaching profession. In particular understanding the difficulties learners experience when acquiring a second or third language. I also find the aspect of finding out about different cultures, professions, learner types fascinating. During my teaching life I have been involved in Business English, ESP (for Marketing and Advertising) teaching. Furthermore I've been holding preparatory course leading to the LCCI exams.

Edward Tanguay
I received my M.Ed. in TESOL in 1992 from Temple University in Philadelphia after which I worked in Germany as a teacher for a number of years. As the dot-com boom got underway I began doing web development and have been working as a website and software developer ever since. Today I like to teach English on the side and develop new methods of teaching and training. If you are into new methods of teaching, see my Float First German online training (and hear me rap!). Or perhaps I could inspire you to run a marathon. If you are into website and software development, see my web developer site and follow me on twitter. Otherwise, check out the the rest of my projects.

Now happily retired with more time for travelling and activities with a number of 'Oldie' and other groups in Berlin. Even so, I am still in demand for relief teaching, 1:1 and English for Special Purposes. Fifteen years ago Kristie brought the idea of ELTABB to Berlin and I hosted the first meetings in my flat. Although an ex-Board Member, Treasurer, Auditor and recent 'Mr Postie' I've always supported active involvement by younger, talented members and they are largely responsible for the success of the organisation. Schooled in the old talents of chalk on board before graduating to whiteboard, I then learnt the joys of putting language learning/teaching together with computer programmes and internet in the classroom. If you share this passion, and are of a 'senior age' but not sure, then contact me. If I am not able to help you, I know a lot of very clever ELTABB members who can! Justin Ehresman
I have been teaching English full-time for 12 years now: first in Japan for two years and then in Berlin since 1999. I founded a language agency called All on Board in 2001 which has been growing ever since and currently employs over 20 language instructors. We maintain high-quality lessons and customer service via various means which make us stand out from other institutions. In addition to teaching, I am also an avid language learner and I comfortably speak seven languages. I am always looking for opportunities to expand my knowledge of language teaching and find ELTABB an excellent resource and it's always great getting together with other language professionals socially as well.
Rachel Hindman
I have been teaching business English in Berlin for over five years. I also have experience in the business world, having done IT and administrative work for quite a few years in areas such as marketing, real estate, engineering, software support, and banking. Since becoming certified in TEFL in 2003, I have taught English in many diverse areas of business.

I have a great love for teaching, and I know this communicates itself to my students. My teaching style is very energized and dynamic, and I am able to develop a strong rapport with my students. I can adapt my teaching style to match my students’ needs, and my background demonstrates proven organizational and communication skills.

Like many English teachers, I initially came to Berlin to pursue a different career. In my case, it was opera that drew me to Germany's capital. In addition to teaching English, I also perform as a professional singer and teach singing lessons in my home in Schöneberg.
Mathias Gellrich
I have been teaching English (all levels, including business courses) to students at VHS and some other private institutions for an eternity.
